Background of the Study
Alumni engagement is vital for the continued success and growth of universities. In recent years, universities have been exploring new ways to strengthen relationships with their alumni by leveraging technology. Traditional methods of alumni engagement, such as physical meetings and newsletters, can be resource-intensive and inefficient, especially when attempting to reach a large, geographically dispersed alumni base (Gupta & Sharma, 2024). AI-based platforms can automate communication, engagement activities, and event management, providing personalized experiences for alumni while reducing the administrative burden on university staff (Bai & Li, 2023).

At Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, Sokoto State, an AI-based automated alumni engagement platform could serve as a means to foster stronger connections with graduates, enhance networking opportunities, and encourage alumni contributions to the university. This study will explore the design and implementation of such a platform, focusing on the integration of AI tools to improve the personalization and efficiency of engagement efforts.

Statement of the Problem
Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto faces challenges in maintaining consistent and meaningful engagement with its alumni. Traditional engagement methods are limited in scope, and alumni often do not feel connected to the university post-graduation. This disconnect reduces the potential for alumni to contribute to the institution’s development. The problem is exacerbated by the difficulty of managing large alumni databases and personalizing engagement efforts. This study aims to address these challenges by designing an AI-powered automated alumni engagement platform that enhances alumni relations, networking, and contributions.

Objectives of the Study

  1. To design and implement an AI-based automated alumni engagement platform for Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto.
  2. To evaluate the effectiveness of the AI-based platform in enhancing alumni engagement and participation.
  3. To assess the impact of the AI platform on the university's alumni relations and community-building efforts.

Research Questions

  1. How effective is the AI-based platform in improving the engagement of alumni with the university?
  2. What are the key features of an AI-based alumni engagement platform that facilitate better connections and communication?
  3. How does the implementation of an AI-based alumni engagement platform influence alumni contributions to the university?

Research Hypotheses

  1. The implementation of an AI-based alumni engagement platform will lead to higher levels of alumni participation in university events and initiatives.
  2. Alumni using the AI-based platform will report more personalized and meaningful interactions with the university.
  3. The AI-based platform will increase alumni contributions (financial and non-financial) to the university.

Significance of the Study
This study will provide valuable insights into how AI-based platforms can improve alumni engagement at Usmanu Danfodiyo University. By leveraging technology, the university can create stronger ties with its alumni, which could lead to increased support, donations, and collaboration opportunities.

Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study will focus on the design, implementation, and evaluation of the AI-based alumni engagement platform for Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto. The study will be limited to the university's alumni and will not extend to other institutions or external stakeholders.
